What: Give Just 1 Iowa

The GiveJust1 Iowa project on March 14th was
absolutely awesome! We decided to send packages to the troops in
Iraq and Afghanistan because we feel they are a part of our
community and we need to support them also. We sent a total of 39
boxes . We had a total of $400.00 that was donated to cover
postage. We had items left over that we donated to a women’s
shelter and also the homeless shelter. We had around 40 people that
came to help get the packages ready to send and around 80 people
that donated items. A special thanks to Jeanette Winchell and the
youth at the Polk County Youth Shelter for collecting and coming to
help prepare the packages. Also a special thanks to Iowa Realty
Beaver office agents and staff for their support and for letting us
leave a collection box at their office. A huge thanks to my f riend
Tim O'neill for driving all the way from Hedrick, Iowa to help us,
now thats true dedication!! Thanks to Tamyra Harrison with Polk
County Democrats for sending the announcement out to their list.
Thanks to my grandchildren Haley & Cameron Searcy for all of their
help and for understanding about sharing grandma! Thanks also to
Jane Hammerlund for being our photographer, to Carol Briggs for
making the blue hands and to Mike Newell & Barb Knapp for their
extra support. Last but certainly not least a huge, huge thanks to
all those that donated and helped prepare boxes. I hope I didn’t
leave anyone out because I truly appreciate all of you. Without you
none of this would be possible. Thanks for always making me proud to
