Jackie Clegg Dodd to Visit Ankeny
You will have an opportunity to visit with Jackie Dodd, wife
of Chris Dodd, around noon on Sunday, December 9 at the home

peanut butter and the children may attend. This event is
being sponsored by Ankeny Area Democrats.
Successful
Hillary Clinton Event
Hillary Clinton appeared at Des Moines Community College
Building 5 on Wednesday, November 28 where she talked
specifically about her health care plan. Although Ankeny
Area Democrats were not a sponsor of this event, we were
allowed to post signs. Hillary was scheduled to appear at
12;15 p.m. but was delayed for more than two hours by
airplane problems. Despite the delay, there was a good
turnout.

Candidate Recruitment Committee Active
The Iowa
House seat for this district will be open this year with no
incumbent running. The previously formed Candidate Recruitment
Committee held its first meeting in October 2007. Several
people were
identified
as possible candidates. Various committee members agreed to
contact specific individuals to determine their interest in
running. Members of the committee are: Genevieve
Lifka-Reselman, Dan Rothman, Ray Blase, Rob Tucker, Merle
Johnson, and Gary Schmidt. Please contact any committee member
if you have a suggestion about a possible candidate.
Successful

hundred nine people attended a campaign visit by Barack Obama on

Precinct 3 Needs Temporary Chair for Caucus
We are way
ahead of previous years in having identified people to act as
Temporary Chairpersons for each of Ankeny’s 13 voting
precincts. This year, only Precinct 3 (voting at Our Ladies
Immaculate Heart Church) is still needing a Temporary
Chairperson. The Temporary Chair generally goes to training
about how to run the caucus and is usually elected Permanent
Chair. To volunteer for this position, call Tamyra Wissmilller,
Secretary of Polk County Central Committee at 515-285-1800.
Meeting Dates
First we met
on Sunday evenings, we changed our meetings to Thursday, and
then we changed our meetings to Wednesday. Each time we chose
for meetings was difficult for some people. Sunday was not
popular so we dropped that and have finally decided to alternate
meetings between Wednesday and Thursday so we can meet the
differing needs of members. Meetings are scheduled in Dahl’s
meeting room at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2007;
Thursday, November 8; Wednesday, December 5; and Thursday,
January 10, 2008.
New Promotional Materials
We have
great new note pads available, refrigerator magnets will soon be
available and we have new blue and white posters identifying
Ankeny Area Democrats that you can post in your yard, or post at
meetings when appropriate. You can pick up these items at
meetings and they will be handed out at the caucuses in
January. We also purchased a new banner that shows our new
website address. The website is almost ready but it is “still
under construction.”
Upcoming Events
Nothing
specific is planned at this time but we are still hoping to have
events for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Barack Obama has
expressed interest. We also want to plan a social/political
event yet this fall so keep watching.

CANDIDATE RECRUITING COMMITTEE
CAMPAIGN FUN
Ankeny Area
Democrats established a Candidate Recruiting Committee in July
which is actively seeking out individuals who might run for the
Iowa House of Representatives District 70 seat that will be
filled by the November 2008 election. At the same time, it was
determined that we need to develop a campaign fund to support
that candidate. Help get a Democrat elected! Pledge a
certain amount each month, make a one time donation or make
periodic donations to the Campaign Fund.
