Organize In Your Community
Be a Block Leader
Text | Knock Doors | Make Calls | Have genuine conversations
The Neighbor to Neighbor program creates a grassroots network one neighbor at a time. We hope you will join us.

The program is simple:
-
Talk to registered Democrats and left leaning Independents (friendlies only) in your neighborhood – about 30 homes right around your house.
-
Talking to your neighbors is the best way to turn out voters. Nothing else is even close. Neighborhood Leaders build relationships with their neighbors and become the point of contact for those neighbors who have questions or need assistance around election time.
-
Knock on doors of your neighbors near election time, pass out campaign literature, share key voting dates and encourage them to vote. If they are not home, email or text them!
-
Sign up today for a training to get everything you need to walk and talk to your neighbors successfully!
-
One voter at a time. Volunteers with our Ankeny Area Democrats Neighborhood Leader Program connect with registered Democratic voters in their own neighborhoods, building better turnout with a personal touch.
-
The NTN visit is often the most influential contact many voters will have during an election, making it an invaluable opportunity to win a Democratic vote.
-
Neighborhood Leaders make personal contact with 30 of their neighbors who are registered Democrats, informing them about current candidates, issues, ballot measures, etc., and encouraging them to vote.
-
Direct contact with voters is the most effective way of increasing Democratic turn out during elections, and the best way to communicate our progressive values and accomplishments.

How it works
-
1. We will prepare a walk list for you. If you have been a Neighborhood Leader before, it will be a list like the one you’ve walked in the past. It will be updated to show new Democratic registrants and people who have moved will be removed.
-
2. You will be notified when the candidate literature is available and you can begin contacting your neighbors. This will be around August 27, 2024.
-
3. When you have completed the voter contact, and filled in your walk sheet, sit tight and wait for the next action.
-
4. The next step is the 'Chase' which is a fancy word for follow-up. Make sure they fill out their Absentee Request form. It's easy!

Materials
We have everything you need to serve as a Block Leader.
-
1. We give you the “turf” which is a fancy name for the list of 30 houses in your neighborhood that you are responsible for talking to voters.
-
2. We train you with online videos that you can watch when it’s best for you, as well as in-person trainings that you can attend.

Training Schedule
We conduct trainings in person and via the Zoom. We can also host training sessions for county parties and other groups, just email/contact: AnkenyAreaDemocrats@gmail.com
